Why I Became a CancerFit Certified Trainer (and Why It Matters)
I’ve trained strongmen. I’ve trained weekend warriors. I’ve trained people who just want to get off the couch without making sound effects. But recently, I added something new to my toolkit: I became a CancerFit Certified Trainer and Coach.
Why?
Because strength looks different when you’re fighting cancer.
What Is CancerFit?
The CancerFit program is an evidence-based training certification for fitness professionals who want to safely and effectively help people with cancer—whether they’re currently undergoing treatment or walking the long road of remission.
Cancer changes the body. Chemo, radiation, surgeries—they leave behind fatigue, neuropathy, muscle wasting, and a thousand other side effects the rest of the world doesn’t see. The CancerFit certification equips trainers like me with the knowledge to train with compassion, caution, and clinical awareness—without losing the drive for progress.
This isn’t about “pushing through the pain.” It’s about pacing, breath, lymphatic flow, and resilience—the kind that builds from the inside out.
So What Does That Mean for You?
If you or someone you love has been touched by cancer, you already know how hard it is to move your body when everything feels off. The fatigue is real. The side effects are real. But guess what? Movement is medicine. The right kind, done the right way, can improve mood, immune function, strength, and even long-term survivorship outcomes.
My role is to make that movement safe, effective, and even (dare I say it?) enjoyable.
Whether you’ve got zero experience or you were an athlete before your diagnosis, there’s a way forward. And we’ll find it—together, at your pace.
Livestrong and the Bigger Picture
This new chapter in my work was deeply inspired by the Livestrong Foundation, whose mission is to support people affected by cancer, from diagnosis through survivorship. Livestrong believes that no one should face cancer alone—and I agree.
Their programs empower survivors not just to live, but to live well. That’s what I aim to support as a CancerFit coach. I’m not here to slap a bootcamp on your chemo recovery. I’m here to guide your body’s healing with thoughtful exercise, patience, and respect.
Final Thought
This isn’t a side gig. This is part of the mission. If you’re in treatment, in remission, or figuring out what life looks like after the hospital, I’m here to help you move better, feel better, and maybe even surprise yourself. It all ties back to the overarching mission of Innervation as well - your body can heal if you give it a chance (and a nudge).
And if your doctor told you to “stay active,” but forgot to mention how to do that when your bones ache and your energy’s in the red—we’ll figure it out, one step at a time.
Your Next Steps
